A drop in iPhone sales leads to $ 170 million in penalties from Apple

ET recently confirmed that Samsung had imposed a penalty for Apple over $ 170 million due to the decline in sales of iPhone phones featured on the company's OLED screens.

The leaks indicate that Apple will not take steps to pay this fine in cash to the Korean giant, but will resort to give Samsung Display orders equivalent to the amount of fines owed by the company.

Samsung has already received exclusive contracts for the supply of OLED screens for the iPhone X series, given the ability of the Korean giant to execute supply contracts for the OLED screens to the fullest extent compared to competitors, where the facilities and industrial technology required to manufacture OLED panels.

Apple has often preferred to rely on more than one supplier to manufacture the company's hardware configurations, but some of the bottlenecks that Apple faced at first have led to its full reliance on Samsung, where the company paid $ 2.7 billion to LG to manufacture OLED screens, but LG shut down one of its industrial facilities, which stopped production.

Also not the case with Japan Display which is also facing some of the hurdles in the recent period may push it to withdraw from supplying OLED screens for Apple smart watches.

So the relationship between Apple and Samsung is ultimately changing between sometimes competing markets and common interests in others.
